1982 VW Diesel Westphalia

Owner:

Diesel Jim

Stolen from:

Napa, California, USA

Chassis:

WV2ZG0250CH072691

License:

1GBV183 (California)

Color:

light yellow with a white westphalia top

Other information:

Vehicle was stolen during the period of Nov. 1 to Nov. 11. I was out of town on vacation. When I returned from my vacation on the 11th, I noticed it missing. I immediately contacted the Napa Police Dept. and reported it as a stolen vehicle. They assured me that there was no record of it having been towed by city / or other type of towing / impound yards, at least, to the best of their knowledge.

Other distinguishing marks: Alloy wheels(from an '89 Carat) with Winston 175/R14 tires, Silver "Deluxe" Wraparound bumpers (fiberglass, I believe. These also came off of an '89 Vanagon GL/Carat from a Pick'n'Pull in Oakland.) The grill & headlight assembly had also been replaced with a newer version from '86 - '91. A little orange stuffed monkey (sunfaded to almost yellow) sat in the passenger's side front of the dash. The curtains are very sunfaded. The interior was complete with sink, stove, refrigerator, 2 swingaway table tops, and, of course, the 2 front seats. I also had extra trim stored inside the Van, as well as the front spoiler(from an '89) which I hadn't yet mounted. Rear license plate frame read Val Strough, Albany. There was a clear plastic cover over it to discourage theft of the registration tags. Very minor damage to side sliding door, & also, passenger front by parking light. Poptop tent has a big rip/tear in it on the passenger's side. Seal on the poptop (rear) part of the camper is missing. View from back reveals: Vanagon L, diesel. Also, broken antenna and trim missing.

If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of this vehicle, please contact either me or the police. Thanks! As far as a reward is concerned, we can discuss that later . . . I will be very grateful to get my van back!

Status: "Kurt got his van back -- its clutch is toast and the tried to rip the back of the fridge out. Apparently they thought the fridge cooling fins were a stereo amplifier. Idiots. "Happy to report that my bus was recovered by law enforcement about a month and a half after it was stolen. The stereo and speakers were gone (expected) but otherwise it was unharmed and in perfect shape!

One warning: my camper apparently was stolen by a tow truck driver here in the city who decided it was fair game after I left it parked in the same spot for several weeks in a row. If you've got one in SF, keep an eye on it!"

1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia

Owner:

Linda Schultz

Stolen from:

Homewood Suites Hilton parking lot, Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove, CA

Chassis:

WV2ZB0251HH076335

License:

California 2JUY726

Color:

medium blue

Other information:

It has an orange  Huntington Beach, CA  beach pass on the left lower front window. Our
Sony Mavica digital camera in a Route 66 tapestry bag was in the car. The camera has some pictures of my mother's February 10th funeral on it.

Status:

"Our 1987 Blue Westfalia California (L# 2JUY726) was stolen 2/21-22, 2003 at a Hilton in Garden Grove, and it was recovered a few miles away in Anaheim on Friday night. The suspects, a 17 year-old, and an 18 year-old male, were arrested when they were pulled over for failure to stop for a pedestrian.

Sadly, they were gang members, and the exterior and interior of our van were scratched and painted with gang graffiti. The dash is ruined, stereo ripped out, table crudely cartooned, back seat slashed open, ceiling defaced, etc. So sad to see the senseless vandalism. Most of our stuff is gone, including my camera. They had garage openers and lots of keys in the glove box-a regular rolling gang-mobile. Don't know yet if the insurance company will fix or total it."

License:

NST5017 (North Carolina)

Color:

brown, new paint except roof

Other information:

Stolen from the shoulder of south bound I-85 at Greenville, South Carolina just past the exit for Augusta Rd.

This van is converted to a TDI engine with the TDI label on the
tail gate. It also has the instrument panel from the TDI donor car, a '96 Passat.

My son was driving to a friends wedding when he ran out of fuel and parked on the shoulder. When he came back with fuel about one and a half hours later the van was not there. The police have no record that they requested it be towed.

Status:

"On Monday afternoon (6-10) the Greenville police recovered my van and arrested the man who stole it. I have it back home with no noticeable damage. The next day the man, out on bail already, turned in most of the stuff that he had removed from the van. We are still missing some valuable camera gear.

Many people around the world were praying that this van and its contents would be recovered. God answers prayer. A big THANK YOU to those who saw this listing and passed it on to others. It was instrumental in getting the right information to the police to catch this guy."

1965 Standard Deluxe bus

Stolen from:

Huntington Beach, CA

License number:

65SPLIT (Florida)

Color:

Forest green (bottom) and green white

Other information:

Rust around the floor boards. 1600 DP motor with Gene Berg components.

Status:

"The owner passed out a bunch of fliers at the last OCTO meet. A guy from Walnut CA called and told him that he saw some guy taking the motor out of his bus as they spoke. The owner called the police and got a ride over there. When they arived, the kid working on the bus was arested and the owner IDed the bus. It was all there. No parts taken at all.

What they did was swap the VIN plated both in the engine bay and the front with a 67 bus's. (More food for the VIN thread, don't sell em!) They cut the whole plate along the wheel well seam and grafted in a new one. A real clean job too. They primered over it after that. The front plate was riveted in with 2 different rivets.

The kid (early 20's) said he bought the bus in Long Beach. They arested him, but later released him. Jon (the real owner) asked the police to open up the garage to see if there were any more parts, but they would not. I am sure that any parts are long gone by now. I do not know if they will probe the guy any to see if more will be found. (Call the Walnut PD if you want to stress to them that they should follow up on this.) Jon said that they were not real interested in digging into it. (His words, not the PD)

The bus is in impound right now untill the paper work is filled out. Jon has to go get it and then figure out what to do about the VIN. The original is gone and he now will have a DMV headache to deal with. He is just happy to get the bus back."
